Psoriasis And How It Affects The Rich And Famous

By January 27, 2017 October 21st, 2022 No Comments

Psoriasis is a skin condition that impacts those in the public eye too. Even celebrities known for their varied talents have and still are affected by the disease.

Most recently Kim Kardashian has spoken out about how stress has made her psoriasis worse. Since she was held at gunpoint in a robbery in Paris in October 2016, Kim has reported that psoriasis has spread across her body, including her face.

Whilst the exact cause of psoriasis is largely unknown it is thought that stress is a significant trigger. Given that Kim has had more than her fair share of stress recently it is easy to see why that may have caused a flare up of psoriasis for her.

The reality star has always been up front about her problems with psoriasis since 2010 when she documented the struggle in the show ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’. It is thought that previously Kim mainly suffered with psoriasis on her legs however recent events seem to have made the condition significantly worse.

Other triggers for psoriasis can be smoking, heavy drinking, colder weather and an injury to the skin. Symptoms include red, cracked and even bleeding skin, itching, burning sensations and stiff joints. Psoriasis usually can be managed with a variety of psoriasis treatments and medication.

Others famous people that also have stated publicly that they suffer from the disease are country singer LeAnne Rimes, musician Liam Gallagher, actress Cara Delavinge and singer Art Garfunkel. Rimes has suffered since the age of 2 and by 6 has said that 80% of her body was covered. Her skin is now much clearer and she describes being able to do a bikini photo shoot as one of the “highlights of her life”. Art Garfunkel took to swimming in the Dead Sea whilst in Israel as he’d heard it could relieve his symptoms. Reports say he found it more “beautiful than therapeutic.”
