HSDC – What Clinic Customer Service Award 2016
We are delighted to announce that the Harley Street Dermatology Clinic is now an award-winning clinic having picked up a coveted What Clinic customer service award in February 2015. Well done to all the team, but in particular the manager Sarah Sheridan and her assistant Madara Abele.
Mobile Teledermoscopy – keep an expert eye on your moles
Worried about a Naevus (mole)? A study from the US has shown that mobile phones/tablets can be used for monitoring of atypical or changing moles. In conjunction with expert dermatologist review, the system can detect ongoing change in a mole, which might be suggestive of malignant potential and thus warrant excision.
However, as discussed regularly in these pages, the most important factor in the battle against malignant melanoma is for patients to recognise the signs early and act swiftly.
Melanoma is the most dangerous of the skin cancers, and these are the things to look out for.
- Rapidly growing or enlarging moles
- Moles that change shape and become irregular or asymmetrical
- Blurring of the borders of a mole
- Changing colour, particularly darkening, or more variations of colour appearing
- Ulceration or bleeding
News in psoriasis
The latest biological drug in the treatment of severe psoriasis, secukinumab (Cosentyx, Novartis) has received approval for the treatment of adults with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The drug has shown remarkable effects in the treatment of patients with psoriasis, causing complete resolution in many patients and a 90% reduction in psoriasis severity index in many more.
Hopefully the drug will be approved by the National Institute for Clinic excellence for use in the UK in the near future.
