Aqualyx is a fat dissolving injection which can be used on most areas of the body, with the most popular being the chin, upper arms, waist, hips, inner thighs and buttocks. It is a non-surgical way of body shaping using a gel based solution which is injected into areas of unwanted, difficult to shift pockets of fat. Fat dissolving injections are not intended for weight loss, but rather for those with localised fat tissue which is not responding to a healthy diet or increased physical exercise to improve the contour of the body by removing stubborn areas of fat.

HOW DO FAT DISSOLVING INJECTIONS WORK?
AQUALYX is injected directly into the fat tissue. The molecule is encased in a sugar coating which helps to release the substance slowly and minimise side effects.
The procedure is generally not uncomfortable and most patients report discomfort levels of 1-3 on a scale of 1-10 (10 being severe). The solution is mixed with a local anaesthetic to keep any discomfort to an absolute minimum while we are dissolving away the stubborn areas of fat. After dissolution of the targeted fat cells, the body expels the fatty acids naturally through the urine.
Following treatment, you will experience swelling and redness in the area where the fat has been dissolved for a few weeks. This starts to settle after a few days and is normally gone in 3-4 weeks. You may have some discomfort, but this is not usually severe. A little bruising is expected. You should not exercise for 5 days and some patients find mild compression clothing helps for non-facial treatment areas. A low-fat diet can help to increase the effectiveness of AQUALYX.
While results can’t be compared to surgical liposuction, where large amounts of fat are permanently removed from the body, the results of AQUALYX are still permanent. The treatment takes time to reach its full effect but patients that have undergone follow-up examinations seven years after therapy still show reduction in fat tissue in the treated areas. As with all medical therapies there is no guarantee of fully successful treatment. Some patients get good results from a single treatment, but many required 2-3 treatments for facial areas. Up to 8 sessions are required for body areas. The recommended interval between repeat treatment is 4-6 weeks.

Are fat dissolving injections safe?
Aqualyx is a safe and effective fat dissolving procedure. No major untreatable side effects have occurred in over 2 million treatments worldwide so far and not one single incidence of overdose or toxic effects has been recorded.
Is everyone suitable for fat dissolving injections?
Fat dissolving injections are not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. It is also not recommended for those who have lipodystrophy or any pathological conditions. If you are unsure if this treatment is recommended for you, please get in touch.
How quickly will I see results following fat dissolving injections?
Results can be seen after four to five weeks. There is often swelling following treatment so once that has settled down you will start to see some results.
